The 5kg Gaslight propane is aimed at occasional BBQ users and households who prefer a lighter cylinder that is easy to move and store. A 5kg cylinder provides roughly 4–6 full BBQ sessions on a medium-sized gas barbecue, depending on cooking time and how high the BBQ is running. If you BBQ weekly throughout summer, a 10kg Gaslight cylinder is more economical and reduces how often you need a refill.
Both contain the same propane gas and use the same 27mm clip-on regulator. The 5kg is physically smaller and lighter — easier to handle and store under a BBQ side shelf. The 10kg (£54.99) gives roughly double the run-time for about 38% more than the 5kg (£39.99), making it better value for regular use. The 5kg suits occasional use or situations where storage space or carrying weight is a constraint.
The 5kg Gaslight cylinder works with any propane-compatible BBQ that uses a 27mm clip-on regulator — the standard fitting on most UK gas barbecues sold by Weber, Char-Broil, and similar brands. Check that your current regulator is a red clip-on (propane); if it is blue (butane), you will need to swap the regulator or order a butane cylinder instead.
Yes — and this is one of the practical advantages of the Gaslight composite cylinder over a standard steel propane bottle. The outer shell is semi-transparent, so you can see the liquid propane level inside without a gauge. In good light and at room temperature, look at the side of the cylinder — the gas shows as a visible line separating the liquid below from the empty space above. Note that propane is stored at higher pressure than butane, which makes the liquid level slightly less distinct through the wall than you might expect — the visibility is most reliable in warm, well-lit conditions and less clear in cold weather or low light. The Gaslight cylinder is also up to 50% lighter than a steel cylinder of the same capacity, which makes it easy to judge remaining fuel by picking it up rather than guessing until the BBQ goes cold.

Yes — the 5kg Gaslight propane is well suited to leisure and caravanning use. It is up to 50% lighter than a traditional steel cylinder of the same capacity, easier to transport and store, and the semi-transparent shell lets you monitor the gas level at a glance. It connects via a standard 27mm clip-on propane regulator and works with caravan cookers, portable gas stoves, and small propane leisure appliances.

Propane is also the better gas choice for cold-weather camping — it vaporises reliably down to around −42°C, whereas butane begins to struggle below about 2°C and can fail to produce usable pressure on a cold morning. If you camp in autumn, winter, or at altitude, the 5kg Gaslight propane will perform where a butane cylinder may not.

One thing to check before ordering: some caravans and motorhomes run on butane rather than propane. Look at the regulator currently fitted — a blue 21mm clip-on means butane; a red 27mm clip-on means propane. The 5kg Gaslight is propane. If you are switching gas type, you will also need a compatible regulator.
