It depends on how often you use it, but for most households the answer is no — one cylinder per session is realistic, not one per season. A typical outdoor patio heater runs at 11–13kW. At that output, a 13kg butane cylinder will last approximately 12 to 14 hours of continuous use. For an evening's entertaining that's usually plenty, but a full season of regular use will require multiple cylinders.

One important caveat: butane performs poorly in cold temperatures. Below around 5°C, butane struggles to vaporise properly, which means heat output drops noticeably on cold autumn or winter evenings. If you're planning to use your patio heater through the colder months, a propane cylinder — such as our 11kg or 47kg propane — is a more reliable choice. Propane vaporises reliably down to around -42°C and won't lose pressure on a cold night.

The 21mm refers to the bayonet fitting on the cylinder valve — the most common butane regulator in the UK. If your current regulator clips onto the valve rather than screwing on, and is blue, it is almost certainly a 21mm fitting and will work with this cylinder. If it screws on, or if you are unsure, check the label on your regulator before ordering. Propane cylinders use a different connection.
Yes — butane is suitable for use with compatible indoor portable gas heaters. The key requirement is ventilation: always run an indoor gas heater in a room with a window slightly open or adequate air circulation. Never use a propane cylinder indoors or an appliance rated for outdoor use only. Check your heater's manual for the approved gas type before connecting a new cylinder.
To start with Eastern Gases you will need a Flogas cylinder. On your first order, a refundable deposit covers the new cylinder. Your existing cylinder stays with your current supplier — return it to them directly to recover your original deposit. Once you have a Flogas cylinder through Eastern Gases, every subsequent delivery is a straight exchange: empty collected, full one left in its place.
