The Real Flame Pyramid Patio Heater uses a 27mm clip-on propane regulator — it runs on propane only, not butane. Compatible Flogas cylinders available from Eastern Gases are the 11kg Leisure Patio Gas and the 10kg Gaslight. Both connect via the 27mm clip-on fitting and are delivered across London with free standard delivery (3–4 working days) and Saturday delivery available.
Propane is the correct choice for the Real Flame Pyramid Patio Heater — and for outdoor patio heating in the UK generally. Butane underperforms below 5°C: the flame weakens as outdoor temperatures drop, which is precisely when the heater matters most. Propane works reliably in freezing temperatures and delivers consistent heat output regardless of the weather. The heater's 27mm clip-on connection is propane-specific.
Spare cylinders should be stored upright in a ventilated outdoor space, away from the heater, direct sunlight, and any ignition source. Do not store cylinders in a shed with no ventilation, in a garage with vehicles, or indoors. A purpose-built LPG cylinder cage (available from most garden centres) is the recommended solution and keeps the cylinder secure and weather-protected.

The Real Flame Pyramid Patio Heater has a rated output of 13kW and accommodates a cylinder up to 13kg directly on the heater. Propane contains approximately 12.87 kWh per kg, giving the following run-times at full output for the cylinders that fit on the heater:

  • 11kg Leisure Patio Gas (~141 kWh): approx. 11 hours at full output
  • 10kg Gaslight (~129 kWh): approx. 10 hours at full output

At typical evening use of 2–3 hours, an 11kg cylinder will last 3–5 evenings before a refill. For longer run-times from a larger cylinder, see the remote-hose setup below.

Yes, venues, restaurants, and frequent users often connect a 19kg or 47kg commercial propane cylinder via a hose and POL-compatible regulator rather than a standard clip-on fitting. This allows the larger cylinder to be positioned out of sight and eliminates frequent cylinder changes.

The setup requires a POL regulator and a flexible LPG hose rated for outdoor use (BS 3212 Type 2 or BS EN 16436-1 Class 2) — different from the 27mm clip-on regulator the heater ships with. At the heater's full 13kW output, a 19kg propane cylinder (~244 kWh) gives approximately 19 hours of run-time, and a 47kg propane cylinder (~605 kWh) approximately 47 hours — considerably longer than the 11kg or 10kg cylinders that fit directly on the heater.
