What is a Gaslight cylinder?

Gaslight cylinders are manufactured from toughened fibreglass composite rather than steel. The technology was originally developed by Norwegian manufacturer Ragasco and introduced to the UK market under the BP Gaslight brand in the mid-2000s. Production transferred to Flogas in 2013, though the cylinder design, safety standards, and specifications remain unchanged — only the branding has been updated.

If you have an older BP-branded cylinder, we accept it for exchange or refund — the current Flogas cylinders are fully compatible with any BP Gaslight you already own.

How long does a 10kg Gaslight last?

This is our most frequently asked question. The answer depends on the kW rating of your appliance:

• Standard 3-burner gas BBQ (~10kW on full): approximately 13 to 14 hours of cooking time.
• Gas patio heater (~13kW): around 10 to 11 hours of continuous heat output.
• Single-burner camping stove (~2–3kW): 40+ hours of intermittent use.

These figures are approximate — actual run-time depends on the appliance’s kW rating and heat setting. For most households running a patio heater through an autumn evening, a single 10kg Gaslight will typically cover three to four weeks of regular use.

Is a Gaslight Cylinder the Same as Patio Gas?

In practical terms, yes. “Patio gas” is a general term for propane cylinders designed for outdoor leisure use, including BBQs and patio heaters. The 10kg Gaslight qualifies as a patio gas bottle — the only difference is the material. Where a standard 11kg metal patio gas cylinder is made of steel, the Gaslight is made of lightweight fibreglass composite. Both contain propane, and both connect using the same 27mm clip-on regulator.

Customers switching from a Calor or Flogas metal patio gas bottle can move to the Gaslight without changing their regulator or hose, provided the existing fitting is the standard 27mm type.

Cylinder Deposit & Returns

• A refundable cylinder deposit applies if you do not have an empty Gaslight bottle to exchange. The deposit covers the cylinder itself — on subsequent refill orders, you only pay for the gas.
• If you no longer need the cylinder, you can request a collection and deposit refund through our website, and we will arrange collection from your address.
• A note on older cylinders: Gaslight cylinders manufactured before 2013 were BP-branded, while current cylinders are Flogas-branded. The design is identical, and we accept either for return or exchange.
